The Tambookie Tale
The legend of the Tambookies has it that the area, originally inhabited by the Khoi peoples of the Cape Province, was eventually occupied by Xhosa-speaking peoples who migrated from the northern parts of southern Africa.
The San name “Tambookie” was given to the abaThembu peoples who settled in the area around Queenstown, in today’s Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.
Eventually, the name “Tambookieland” was given to this beautiful region with its natural flora.
The Tambookie-thorn, bearing sharp spikes and showy scarlet-green flowers, is a beautiful indigenous plant from this remarkable corner of Africa. The Tambookie-thorn is endemic to this district and occurs nowhere else in the world.
The underground rootstock of this plant is very light when dry, making it one of the softest types of wood in the world.
This wine is as unique as the region, as legendary as the people, and as soft and elegant as the flower.
Cheers to Tambookie!
